Review: Lovelace

Starring: Amanda Seyfried, James Franco, Peter Sarsgaard, Sharon Stone, Juno Temple, Robert Patrick, Chris Noth, Bobby Cannavale, Adam Brody, Chloe Sevigny, Wes Bentley

Rating: 18/R

Plot: The story of Linda Lovelace, who is used and abused by the porn industry at the behest of her coercive husband, before taking control of her life. (source - IMDB)

My Thoughts: First of all let me start off by saying this is not a biopic or documentary it is a film starring actors reading lines and portraying one opinion of Linda's life. I say this because I know that their is some controversy as to if some facts in Linda's life were real or not. What I mean by this is some people called her a pathological liar and some took her side in situations shown in the film.

I found this film quite sad as here was a girl who met a guy who she thought was a charming and an ideal person to marry and live with. Now from what I saw she wanted out of her home with her parents because lets just say the relationship with her mother wasn't a healthy one. So baring this in mind I think she found Chuck almost as a way of saving her.
The film is from the point of view of Linda so it shows how literally from the day she was married she was controlled to enter and industry she didn't even really know about. One moment in the film Linda is going for an audition and doesn't even know it's for a porn film, I think this showed how naive she was in the beginning.
We see months and years of her life and how Chuck controls her mentally and physically. Their is a real harrowing scene where Chuck basically uses Linda's body to pay off his debts. I think Chuck thought of her as a money deal or as an object not a human being with feelings.
Another scene was where we see Linda reaching out to her mother for help to get out, but her mother says 'Well what did you do to make him angry'. This scene is heart breaking as Linda was opening up to her abusive marriage early on but even her mother used it as a way to say it was her fault. This rejection probably made her feel like she deserved to suffer that, and for the rest of her time with him she didn't tell anyone of the horror that she was going through.
I got from this film that Linda lost everything even herself. She had no choices and when she did voice her opinion she was punished for it and even after she got out of the industry she could never really move on and people defined her for something she hated.

I loved the 70s feel of the film and I thought Amanda Seyfried did a really well in portraying this character. This is probably the most stripped back (no pun intended) I have ever seen her. The fashion was so cool and really fitted well in the film and I loved Seyfried's hair/wig throughout, makes me want to get a perm!
If you are looking for a film with nudity and sex and all that jazz this film isn't for you (I suggest going to watch the original Deep Throat), their is hardly any nudity in it at all as that isn't what the film is about. Before watching this I didn't know much about Linda's life but from what I gather she has some good moments before her death especially with her children and her work as an activist, but I cannot help but wonder that she was probably always haunted by her past.

Insightful

3.5/5

July Favourites: River Island Haul

Already August! This year is going so fast. Not much happened in July except the soaring English heat, but I did manage to purchase some items that I thought I would review for you.

River Island have some good deals in the sale section so go check it out and treat yourself to something. As I haven't had money in a while I have missed out on Rihanna's collections but their is still a few items left which I went and purchased.

Clothes from the Rihanna Collection:

Barely there Stiletto sandals in Black - £80 / Love these so much just the right height and I love the gold buckle.

Black tied T-Shirt £25 / This was longer than appeared on the picture which I'm glad about. Also the material is really light weight and soft.

Black crochet midi skirt £10 / Now Rihanna wore this with just her bikini on underneath which is fine if you look like Rihanna. I however just put a simple black bodycon dress underneath.

Grey knot front cropped cami top £7 /  This is a lot more cropped than the picture shows but I love the loose material and anything high waisted will look good with this.

Grey marl knot front cropped T-shirt £10 / This is a slouchy loose top and can be dressed up or down love it.

Grey thigh split sweat maxi skirt £20 / This skirt is lovely and even though I'm not a fan of showing my legs it doesn't go over the top and this can also be dressed up or down.

So far I'm super impressed by Rihanna's collection, it's simple but yet so stylish. I can't wait for more!!

Accessories:

Rose gold tone curb chain necklace £8 / I've wanted a chain like this for a while but wasn't going to fork out for it so this is a cheap alternative, yes it feels like plastic but from a far no one is none the wiser!

Gold tone scarab beetle repeat bracelet £10 /  I feel in love with this when I saw it on the website as I love anything Egyptian, it's certainly a statement piece.

Gold tone triangle finger top midi pack £2 / I got the size M which will fit on my index finger's but next time I will get L because I love midi rings and for £2 it's so worth getting a few.

Gold tone diamante kitten ears headband £5 / I first saw a similar pair in Taylor Swift's video '22' and thought they looked super cute. I'm not a fan of her's but I had to get myself them and I love them so much.

I'm really pleased with my summer buy's, let me know in the comment's what your favourite item was for the summer.
