Film Review: The Host

I haven't blogged in 9 days how crap of me! I also haven't done a film review since January! What is going on, I need to get back into the swing of things so I have decided every Monday I will review either a TV show/Film for you all.
Let me know in the comments what films you would recommend that I should watch. It doesn't matter what genre as I like to keep an open mind when it comes to films. Also let me know what films you are looking forward to seeing this year, I'm so excited for The Great Gatsby since I read the book for A level and I'm a big fan of Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. You can see the wonderful trailer here!!

So lets get to it. I have been intrigued to see this film since I saw the trailer, I'm not a fan of the Twilight saga but I am a fan of Max Irons :) Click here to watch the trailer.

Director: Andrew Niccol

Starring: Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Diane Kruger, William Hurt, Jake Abel

Plot:  When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she most cares about to prove that love can conquer all. (From IMDB)

Rating: PG-13

Thoughts: First off I won't give any spoilers to this film as I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. From the trailer you would expect this film to be an action sci-fi and on the surface it is, but the real message and story line of the film is to do with not only love but freedom.
Melanie (Ronan), her brother Jamie and her chiseled drop dead gorgeous boyfriend Jared (Irons) are on their way to find the rest of the resistance. The resistance are a group of humans who are trying to fight the alien race who inhabit human bodies to therefore live on earth. However Melanie is caught and inhabited with the Alien called Wanderer or Wanda for short. When humans are inhabited the aliens search through their memories to find any information about the resistance so the aliens can track them down.

Kruger plays the main seeker bitch who is in charge of getting Wanderer to tell all about Melanie's memories except the problem is Melanie is still alive and fighting to stay in control in her mind, so for example when the seeker is asking Wanda a question about the resistance the audience hear Melanie tell her to not tell the seeker anything. I liked this whole back and forth with Wanda talking to Melanie and this is where we see that Wanda is actually really compassionate and empathetic towards Melanie and wants to help her get back to her people.

So basically that's the basis of the start of the film. The audience get to see the struggle for Melanie being trapped as Wanda is controlling her body but also that Wanda has feelings of her own especially towards Ian. Some points I was screaming out for Melanie to shut her trap so that Wanda could spend some time with Ian. I also really liked the whole community of the resistance living in this volcano thing in the middle of the desert fighting not to get caught and the fact that they would rather kill themselves than be inhabited really made me think what it would be like running away from something that could destroy who you are. Also it makes you think that if you are strong in mind you can overpower anything that is trying to prevent you from being yourself.

I really liked this film and it is totally different to what I expected. I loved the whole Wanda/Melanie thing and although I was a little disappointed towards the end I can see how they have left it open for the next installments. The situation although far fetched you can believe in the characters struggles to fight for their lives.

Two minds think alike

3.5/5

Nails and Update!!

So as you know I like to change my nails quite often and after I fell down the stairs one of my dagger tips broke off so I thought it was time to change the design. As I've been really into Ancient Egyptian every thing I thought I would try a gold and blue look as those colours were used a lot in those times. They loved the primary bold colours and I think I achieved that used gems and a dotting tool. It wasn't as perfect as I would have liked I'm a bit OCD about my nails but take a look anyway:

Then after a week I got bored and wanted a change so for a brighter look I used mostly my Avon colours to add a sparkle to the tips after I painted them with a bright base.

My Left Hand:
My Right Hand:

As I am writing this one of my tips bent so I just soaked it all off and that was fine but the bow won't come off as it has double acrylic under it to help it stay on. Hopefully I can use a cotton bud/Q-Tip to get acetone under it so I can put on a new tip and have perfect nails again!

In other news my hair is getting super fluffy and out of control I can't wait for another month so it can lay flat in a pixie style. I've been using hats and scarves when I'm going out as I can't do anything nice with my hair yet. I bought this super cute cross ring from River Island I love it.

I also watched the season finale of Shameless us and I can't wait till January for the next season, so I've been filling the empty hole with other shows like The Walking Dead. I watched the first season in one night and so far I love it. I'm about 5 episodes into season 2 and even though I've really been that into horror or gore I think this show is great. Yes the zombies are horrid and disgusting but that's what makes it feel more realistic (if that's possible), I think it helps that I'm really into Special effects makeup so their easier to look at!

I'm planning on watching Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Revenge and Breaking Bad to fill my time. Oh and of course catching up on Dexter from season 4 onwards. So yeah hopefully I can get up to date with all of those programmes in the coming months.

Till next time

March Favourites!

I cannot believe its actually April already and the weather is starting to finally feel like Spring. This is only going to be a quick post because I couldn't really find any new favourites this month. Anyway here we go!

March Hits:

1. Shameless US. This programme is amazing, I am literally obsessed. I tried to watch the original UK version and I just can't get into it. I have fallen in love with the US versions characters. I totally ship Mickey and Ian I just want them to be together!! Its nearly the end of season 3 and I'm dreading how long I will have to wait for season 4. If you haven't watched this, get to it!

2. Avon MagiX illuminating face perfecter. This stuff is so good, I put it on before my foundation and I can really tell the difference in how my face looks after using it. The foundation glides on better and the overall setting of my foundation is so much better. I also got the tester for the MagiX cashmere advanced foundation in nude and it really gave my skin a slight sun kissed look which will be great for going into the Summer. I will be purchasing the bigger tube.

3. Max Irons. I have loved him since watching him in The Runaway. Look at that face! His dad is Jeremy Irons so he comes from good blood hehe. I can't wait to see him in the newly released film The Host.

March Misses:

1. I fell down the stairs 2 days ago like from the top step all the way down! I didn't want to fall on my face so I lent back and hurt my bum, lower back and sides. The pain has got worse over the last few days and its really uncomfortable to change position even sitting down and every time I get up their is a tight pulling in my stomach. So yeah not great, too be honest I'm surprised it hasn't happened sooner I'm super clumsy. So I'm  probably going to the walk in center later to get it all checked out but I reckon all they will say is you are bruised all over :( Not looking forward to being black and blue for the next week or so.

Till next time
